Admission Requirements
Students are eligible to apply for admission to the department as freshmen. If transferring into the SLP program as a sophomore or junior, a minimum GPA of 2.0 or better is required for admission.

Students will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the biological sciences, physical sciences, statistics, and social/behavioral sciences
- Understand normal speech, language, hearing, and communication.
- Understand the nature (etiology and characteristics) of communication disorders and its relationship to other disabilities.
- Understand the relevance of cultural diversity and globalism and their impact on communication disorders.
- Critically analyze a selected body of literature in communication sciences and disorders
- Demonstrate good writing skills across the discipline, including but not limited to essays, research papers, literature reviews, labs, and observation reports using APA style.
- Collaborate effectively with others on in-class and out-of-class projects to understand the roles and responsibilities of those involved on a team.
- Describe aspects of language in typically developing school-age children
- Identify a variety of clinical techniques/strategies for improving an individual’s communication abilities.
